Federal Staffing Specialist

DecisionPoint is actively seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Staffing Specialist/Human Resources Specialist to support the United States Secret Service in Washington, DC. The Staffing Specialist will perform and provide comprehensive support for Federal excepted service recruitment and staffing. Additionally, the Specialist will perform strategic consulting related to qualification requirements, and applicable automation tools (automated staffing system) and timeframes.
  • Review college transcripts using OPM’s Qualification Standard
  • Review applicant’s work experience for minimum qualifications
  • Assist with reviewing documents to determine Veterans’ Preference (Form DD214/VA Letter)
  • Review an applicant’s zip code to determine if the correct recruiting office was selected
  • Assist with reviewing an applicant’s application history with the agency to determine previous status
  • Identify and monitor status for applicants, who applied to both the special agent and Uniformed Division Officer positions
  • Grade and/or score test materials (Special Agent Entrance Examination and Police Officer Selection Test)
  • Send email notifications to applicants regarding status of application
  • Send email notification to the recruiting office for each applicant, regarding the status of the application
  • Review/respond to email notifications daily from the recruiting office regarding the status of applicants
  • Track/update applicant’s status through each phase of the hiring process
  • Track applicant’s relocation and recruiting office changes and send email notification to the appropriate recruiting offices
  • Answer telephone calls and respond to email inquiries from applicants and recruiting offices regarding the status of the application
  • Prepare appointment packets for newly hired employees
  • Review applicant status reports for accuracy and placement in the application process based on timeline
  • Request/Prepare/Complete Request to Pass Over a Preference Eligible packet for management review
  • Request/Prepare/Complete medical review packets
  • File application materials
Required Skills:
  • 3-6 years of experience working as a Human Resources Assistant supporting Federal Government agencies
  • Understanding of the administrative functions associated with Federal recruiting and staffing
  • Understanding of Federal policies and regulations as they relate to recruiting, staffing and placement
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or other automated staffing systems such as Monster or equivalent
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective team member without appreciable direction
  • Effective communication skills: written, oral, and listening
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and be successful in a high paced environment
Desired Skills:
  • HR experience in Federal security or law enforcement environment
  • Eligibility to obtain suitability assessment/background investigation
